Microsoft Germany HQ Lobby (Munich)
Upon completing their new German headquarters in Munich, Microsoft sought an intervention in their lobby atrium to make it a more welcoming and interactive experience. To help contrast with the stark-white and rigid context, the mezzanine stairs touch down onto a sculpted and carved landscape podium, finished with white oak. The podium is stretched outward, pulled upward, and stepped down to provide places to sit, walk up, and work on. Playful and wirelessly interactive screens hung from above with varied orientations and height fall beneath the surrounding ceilings at their lowest point, providing a pinch point and sense of scale, just out of reach. From there, they dance upward following the podium’s lead.
My role in this project included conceptual and design development, and documentation for coordination with local architects.
This is an SkB Architects project.
